Missouri Takes Giant Step Backward

Last week we told you about moves to ban Alison Bechdel's Fun Home (we are still reading it) and Craig Thompson's Blankets (haven't read) at a Missouri library, as well as the response from comics and anti-censorship advocates. According to Newsarama, the board agreed last night to draft an official policy on the books the library is to collect. And according to the Blog At Newsarama, the Library Board has removed the two novels in question and then will, apparently, retroactively apply the new submission policy. What makes that suspect is that it sounds like those will be the only books currently within the library's holdings that will be reevaluated. Information is scarce and all of this will probably change. We can tell you that if we lived in that community, we would be raising hell. It's no one's business to be our mind police, thank you very much.
