Kabuki and Powers For FREE: Newsarama To Offer Daily Strips From 2 Of The Best Comics Being Published Today

All hail Newsarama, and David Mack and Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming (and their current and former publishers too)! Why you ask? Beginning Monday, Newsarama will begin a daily comic series of Bendis and Oeming's Powers and then a few weeks later, David Mack's Kabuki. For our money, they are two of the best comics being published today. Powers follows two homicide detectives who investigate superpower-related crimes. It's dark and violent; think NYPD Blue with superpowers. Bendis exciting take-no-prisoners dialogue meshes well with Oemings innovative art.

Mack's Kabuki follows an assassin and her attempts to reclaim her identity, among other plot points. Kabuki: Alchemy is currently being printed by Marvel's Icon imprint (as are current issues of Powers) and, hands-down, has the best, most original art in comics today. The earlier issues are great, but Mack's style has evolved significantly as time as has gone on. We are particularly fond of his current penchant for mixed media techniques that often include watercolors, acrylics, fabrics, images from other sources, line drawings, photographs, and text all composed into a collage/mixed-media piece. If you're not currently reading these titles, you should be. It's that simple. Read the full article here.
